Feb 10, 2009 Adaptec's website has only 32-bit drivers for Windows Vista. In Vista x64, the workaround was to install the 'Adaptec AIC-7870 PCI SCSI Controller (Emulated)' driver, but this driver is not included with 7. I searched for this driver on the internet but could not find it. Is it possible to copy the driver from Vista x64 and install it on 7 x64? Description: Microsoft Certified Driver v5.0.1.0 for the Adaptec ASC-1045 and ASC-1405. This self-extracting archive includes the 64-bit driver files for Windows Server 2008/R2, Windows 7, and Windows Vista.

If you must use it save yourself aggravation and find a machine that runs XP: There are some “bare metal” solutions able to directly interface between the guest OS and the physical hardware that you might be able to get working. The problem comes in with drivers, as Virtual Machines like VirtualBox or VMWare Player are still using the host’s drivers to interface with physical devices; even though there may adapte an interpretation layer within that VM environment designed to translate calls between drivers installed in the guest OS, and the drivers that talk to the physical hardware via the host OS drivers.
The only thing that is slightly annoying is that the scanner needs to be powered when the system boots, otherwise it is not recognised, but I believe this is true of all SCSI devices. Is it enough of a refresh to keep up with the times?

I shoot digital now and have a Nikon D as well as a Olympus EM-5, but I have a ton of negatives and slides that I need to digitize. I have read that some people are claiming that they were able to install the scanner on windows 7 64 bit, I have an adaptec scsi, and the scanner cable. 2960 might see the scanner if the driver installs. I just used my camera with a macro lens and photographed them using the scanner backlight as a light box.
