This works on PC or Mac.
To create more than the default 2 guides (horizontal and vertical), hold Ctrl, place the mouse on the guide and drag. Second thing you could be referring to is text box margins. To access it, right click on the text box - choose format shape - text options.
It saves the text from every shape on your notes pages to a file called NotesText.TXT in the same folder as the PowerPoint presentation itself.
